Looking to the future of Downtown

For more than 30 years, the Downtown San Diego Partnership has served as the principal voice and driving force behind the economic prosperity and cultural vitality of Downtown San Diego through membership, advocacy, public services, and community investment. The Downtown San Diego Partnership’s 2023 Strategic Plan is designed to guide the organization’s evolution over the next five years and beyond.

At the Downtown San Diego Partnership, we are working toward a vibrant, thriving, and dynamic Downtown that inspires:

A Sense of Belonging

From Our Community

Throughout the strategic planning process, more than 1,000 stakeholders were engaged through interviews, roundtables, and an online survey, capturing a wide range of perspectives on Downtown San Diego.

We asked Downtown stakeholders which services, programs and initiatives would be most important for the Downtown Partnership to work on over the next five years. Their responses included:

  • Improve safety and reduce homelessness

  • More parks, greenspaces, plazas, and activation of outdoor spaces

  • Make Downtown more resident and family friendly

  • Support small, local businesses and fill vacant storefronts

  • Improve transit and strengthen connections within and to/from Downtown

  • Implement major capital public and private investments

  • Attract more businesses to Downtown

  • Make Downtown more walkable and bikeable

  • More housing options of various types and price points

Setting the Course for the Next 5 Years

The strategic plan presents a new organizational framework structured around the following four goals. They are guided by the feedback we heard from our Downtown community and are the bedrock of the Downtown Partnership’s work over the next five years.
