Meet the Cleanup Crew, your friendly face for cleaning, safety, and placemaking services in the Ballpark District. This dedicated crew works seven days a week to provide the quality enhanced services you have come to expect from the Clean & Safe program in this unique area of Downtown San Diego. This new 38-block subdistrict of the Clean & Safe program is made possible through a collaboration between the Downtown San Diego Partnership and the Ballpark District Community Partnership. 

This effort reflects a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, customized service to an area unique in its capacity to host residents, businesses, visitors, and world-class events.

ABOUT THE BALLPARK DISTRICT

The Ballpark District is a subdistrict within Downtown’s Property and Business Improvement District (PBID), otherwise known as the Clean & Safe program.  Day-to-day services in the area are managed by the Ballpark District Community Partnership through a service team known as the Cleanup Crew.

This 38-block area surrounds Petco Park and includes key portions of:
  • Market Street and Island Avenue (from 14th Street to 6th Avenue)
  • K Street
  • Imperial Avenue
It encompasses major civic anchors such as Petco Park, the San Diego Central Library, and the Metropolitan Transit System headquarters.

THE CLEANUP CREW

The Cleanup Crew is a dedicated cleaning and safety team operating 7 days a week, year-round and exclusively focused on the Ballpark District. With scheduled daily routes and a responsive flex team, they provide a high level of attention to the neighborhood’s public spaces, including:

  • Sidewalk cleaning and upkeep

  • Litter and graffiti removal

  • Dumped item pickup and response to urgent maintenance needs

  • Power washing

  • Dog waste station maintenance

  • Event-related cleanup before and after Padres games and other major events

  • Quick response to urgent issues like dumped items, spilled trash, or broken street furniture

  • Placemaking and beautification efforts

  • Non-emergency incident reporting

  • Coordination with Clean & Safe and City departments to address broader needs

ABOUT THE BALLPARK DISTRICT COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

The Downtown San Diego Partnership and the Ballpark District Community Partnership entered into an agreement in 2025 for this unique entity to provide cleaning, safety, and placemaking services as a subdistrict of the Downtown Property and Business Improvement District.

The Ballpark District Community Partnership is a nonprofit organization comprised of property owners within the district.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Cleanup Crew is funded through property assessments within the Ballpark subdistrict and was approved as part of the 2025-2035 renewal of the PBID, effective July 1, 2025.

Homelessness outreach and family reunification efforts led by the Downtown San Diego Partnership are provided throughout the Downtown PBID service area, including within the Ballpark District. These services are provided by the Downtown Partnership’s Unhoused Care Team. Learn more here
