United Way of San Diego County’s first annual “Changing the Odds Community Breakfast” will gather hundreds of community partners, local businesses and allies to help children be successful both inside and outside the classroom.
Attendees will hear from keynote speaker Liz Murray, author of “Breaking Night,” whose journey from homeless teen to Harvard graduate is a triumph over adversity and of the importance of dreaming big. The event’s honorary chair is San Diego First Lady Katherine Stuart Faulconer, founding president of Restaurant Events and wife to Mayor Kevin Faulconer.
For 97 years, United Way has been working to disrupt the cycle of poverty and provide resources for underserved San Diegans to become self-sufficient, creating better lives for local children and their families.
